What are the four methods of controlling bleeding?
Tourniquet, pressure points, elevation, and direct pressure.
What is a pressure point?
A artery lies near skin surface, but over a bone.
What are five pressure points?
Superficial Temporal Artery (Temple) Facial Artery (Jaw) Common Carotid Artery (Neck) Subclavian Artery (Collar Bone) Brachid Artery (Inner Upper Bone)
List the symptoms of a first degree burn.
First Degree - Redness, Warmth, and Mild Pain.
List the symptoms of a second degree burn.
Second Degree - Causes Red, Blistered Skin and Severe Pain.
List the symptoms of a third degree burn.
Destroys tissue, skin, and bone. Pain might be absent due to nerve endings being destroyed.
What is a closed/simple fracture?
A bone bone that hasn’t broken through the skin.
What are the injuries that can result from electric shock?
Little to no evidence of injury to severe trauma with associated cardiac arrest.
What is Heat Exhaustion?
Disturbance of blood flow to brain, heart, and lungs. Skin - Cool, Moist, and Clammy. Pupils Dilated/Sweating Profusely.
What is Heat Stroke?
Breakdown of Sweating Mechanism. Not able to eliminate excessive body heat buildup. Weak rapid pulse, Uneven Pupil Dilation
What are the indicators of an Obstructed Airway?
Inability to talk, grasping and point at throat, exaggerated breathing efforts, and skin turns blueish.
What is Hyperthermia and the symptoms?
Cooling of body due to exposure of low, or rapidly falling temperature, cold moisture, snow/ice. Person pale/unconscious/may be taken for dead.
What is Superficial Frostbite and the symptoms?
Ice crystals forming on upper layer of skin after exposure to 32 degrees/Below.
What is Deep Frostbite and the symptoms?
Ice crystals in deep tissue after exposure to 32 degrees/Below.
What is Shock?
Life threatening/insufficient blood flow throughout the body from severe injury or illness.
