Purpose of first aid
to help in an emergency immediate and basic care given and focuses on preserving life and minimising serious injury
arterial vs venous bleeding
Arterial bleeding occurs in the arteries which transport blood from heart to body, whereas venous bleeding occurs in the veins which transports blood back to heart
Basic first aid for haemorrhage
Place the palm of your hand over the injury site and apply firm pressure until the bleeding has stopped
Basic first aid in heat stroke
putting cool water or spray water onto the fur skin of the animal and place the animal in a cool shaded area
Road traffic accident
check animal for any broken bones keep stable and still, check for bleeding and injury cover with blankets to keep warm incase of shock and trauma. ventilator if having trouble breathing
Types of emergencies Class 1
Lifethreatening, catastrophic, requires immediate attention
Emergency class 2
very severe, critical requires attention within minutes to 1 hour
Emergency class 3
Serious urgent but not life threatening requires attention within a few hours
Emergency class 4
less seriuos still requires attention but only within 24 hours

Gastric dilitation and volvulus mostly in dogs and is when the stomach bloats with gas or fluid
