What does STEAL stand for?
Speech, Thought, Effects, Actions, and Looks.
Direct Characterization
describes the character’s traits “tells” (ex. pretty, smart, mysterious)
Indirect Characterization
describes the character using actions, thoughts, and how they affect others. (this was his third time in detention - this shows he is a troublemaker)
Linear Plot
Events that take place in a line, chronological order
Non-Linear Plot
When the events or dialogue of a story is portrayed/structured out of chronological order.
What are 2 examples of non-linear plot?
Flashbacks and Foreshadowing

DIRECTLY stated by the author (it’s right there on the paper! lol)
Abstract Evidence
Indirect or implied, not stated. Words that tell the reader hidden feelings within an author’s words (read between the lines)
