firewall Flashcards
Firewall
A firewall is a network security device that separates a trusted internal network from an external network considered untrustworthy. It analyses IP addresses, port numbers, and protocols to decide whether to allow or block specific data.
Why is a firewall important?
Firewalls provide protection against outside cyber attackers by shielding your computer or network from malicious or unnecessary network traffic. This helps to ensure that only traffic considered safe and legitimate is allowed through the firewall.
Why improve
•Cyberattacks are becoming more advanced and complex.
•Hackers are constantly finding ways to bypass basic firewalls, making it harder for those firewalls to offer good protection.
• People use many connected devices
• Will help organizations from losing tons of money due to cyberattacks.
a way to improve
A next generation firewall (NGFW) permits or blocks traffic between networks. NGFWs add advanced capabilities like a deeper inspection and intrusion prevention systems (IPS) to traditional data-filtering network firewall capabilities, making them better at detecting complex threats.
Summary
If you face advanced threats or require application control and DPI, a Next- Generation Firewall is essential. That is why it is very important to improve the traditional firewalls to prevent more cyberattacks from happening.
