An extreme risk protection order shall be in effect for up to one year from the date of issuance, and may be renewed upon petition
Large capacity feeding device more than 10 rounds of ammunition, or more than five shotgun shells
Exception to large capacity feeding device it shall not include any attached tubular device designed to accept, in capable of operating only with, 22 caliber ammunition
For any weapon to be a large capacity weapon, it must first be a semi automatic weapon.
Sawed off shotgun is any weapon made from a shotgun, whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise, if such weapon, as modified, has one or more barrels, less than 18 inches in length, or as modified, has an overall length of less than 26 inches
Shotgun is a weapon, having a smoothbore with a barrel, length equal to, or greater than 18 inches with an overall length equal to or greater than 26 inches incapable of discharging a shot, a bullet from each pull the trigger
Rifle is a weapon, having a rifle bore with a barrel, length equal to, or greater than 16 inches and capable of discharging a shot of bullet for each pull the trigger
A firearm manufactured before 1900 is a antique firearm within the definition of mass general law, 140 section 121. The court held that a person does not need a LTC for a firearm made before 1900.
You do need an FID to lawfully possess the ammunition for the antique firearm
No person may possess self defense spray under the age of 15 years of age. Persons 15 -17 years of age will need an FID and a certificate from the parents submitted with the application.
Weapons in retail gun shops cannot be seen from outside of shop in any outer window, or in any place readily seen from outside. It is a felony
40 days from date of FID application person must be notified of approval or denial
FID and LTC valid for six years from date of issuance
Statutory exemptions to FID requirements regarding surrendering firearms voluntarily. If prior written notice has been given by said person to the licensing authority, or the kernel of the state police, stating the place and approximate time of said surrender.
Non-resident traveling in or through MA FID requirement exemptions. Non-residents traveling in or through a Commonwealth all rifles, or shotguns (Not firearms), are to be unloaded and enclosed in a case.
Volker – McClure act of 1986 which is Interstate transportation of firearms. During transportation, the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm, nor any ammunition being transported, is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle. Vehicle without a compartment separate from the drivers compartment, the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container, other than the glove compartment or console.
