Q

Identify the FEEF acronym for the firing sequence of your pistol.

A
  1. FIRE the chambered cartridge is discharged as the firing pin impacts the primer and ignites the powder charge. The bullet is propelled down the barrel by rapidly expanding gas
  2. EXTRACT The energy generated by the cartridge overcomes the resistance of the recoil spring and drives the slide rearward. The extractor in turn removes the spent case from the chamber
  3. EJECT as the slide moves rearward, the left side of the spent case impacts the ejector and is driven out of the pistol to the right
  4. FEED the recoil spring drives the slide forward, stripping the next cartridge from the magazine and inserting it into the chamber.

Q

What is the correct administrative load procedure at the start of your shift?

A
  1. With the pistol holstered, verify there is no source of ammunition by ensuring the magazine well is empty. Remove the magazine if necessary and secure it in a pocket
  2. Draw the pistol and point it in a safe direction
  3. Rack the slide three times as you observe the ejection port for ejected ammunition.
  4. Lock the slide to the rear by pressing up on the slide lock lever
  5. Visuallyinspect the chamber, ejection port, and magazine well for ammunition
  6. Transfer the pistol to your support hand by grasping the front of the slide and frame. Place your weapon hand to the rear and tilt the pistol upwards until you can see into the barrel. Inspect the bore for obstructions or damage
  7. Return the pistol to your weapon hand and place it in your “workspace”
  8. Access the fully charged magazine from your primary pouch and insert it into the pistol, ensuring it is properly seated
  9. Rack the slide assertively to chamber a cartridge, observing the slide to ensure it is in battery
  10. Holster the pistol and secure all fastening devices. There is no need to place your thumb on the back of the slide as you holster as modern holsters will not cause the slide to come out of battery
  11. Transfer the magazine from your secondary pouch to your primary pouch and place your third magazine into your secondary pouch. This procedure ensures your ammunition is rotated every time you load your pistol
