Arms Act 1983
Definition of a firearm?
anything from which any shot, bullet, missile or other projectile can be discharged by force of explosion.
includes anything that has been
- adapted, dismantled or by correction, replacement, repair or completion defects as a firearm
Definition of prohibited firearm?
- a semi-automatic firearm capable of firing only 0.22 calibre
OR detachable or not magazine no more than 10 cartridges - semi-auto shotgun no more than 5 cartridges
Definition of imitation firearm?
anything that has the appearance of being a firearm whether or not capable of discharging any bullet etc
Definition of pistol?
held with one hand less than 762mm in length
Definition of semi-automatic?
means a firearm that is loaded with each pull of the trigger
- fire a cartridge and ejects a case
- chambers another cartridges
Rules for legal possession of firearm licence?
0-16 = no license can only use supervised by license holder 16-18 = parental permission. Requires license for both air and fire 18+ = requires license for fire but not air
License categories?
A - full license
B - pistol
C - collections/ use for theatrical purposes
D - Dealers
Duties of license holder?
- Undamaged
- produce on demand
if don’t have produce at police station within 7 days - if change address 30 days to notify
- if injury or death from use notify ASAP
- renew every 10 years unless 1st then 5 years

- caution + warn of penalty 3 months impris + $1000 OR both
