What is a flashover ?
The sudden transfer of heat from a localised area to a more widespread fire
If you notice smoke or flames from an electrical item, what should you try and do first ?
Pull through CB (circuit breaker) for that area/item. If how ever the smoke/fire is coming from a seat, then all power needs to be cut
What do you do if a CB trips out?
Notify the captain. Do NOT reset without the captains permission
How long must you wait to reset the CB trip after it has tripped out ?
90 seconds
Who is authorised to pull and rest the CB for resetting purposes when it trips out ?
The FSM after consultation from the Flight Crew & engineering
What are the 4 firefighting objectives of the cabin crew ?
1-To extinguish the fire without delay
2-To communicate effectively both with the flight crew and cabin crew
3-To ensure the incident is dealt with quickly and efficiently with minimum effect on passengers
4- the continued safe operation of the flight
What are the 3 roles when a fire is discovered ?
Firefighter - person who discovers the fire
Communicator - Notify coordinator (usually the FSM) and flight crew immediately
Coordinator- Remove and control passengers. Obtain back your equipment for the firefighter
What are the 4 methods for extinguishing a fire ?
Starve
Smother
Cool
Interfere with the chemical reaction
What must you do with a toilet fire ?
Assess the severity by touching the door with the back of your hand. Crouch down low so you can use the door as a Shield. Slowly open the door just enough to put the end of the FX in. Fully discharge the FX . Close door and wait 30 seconds. Repeat if necessary.
Due to the confined space in the flight deck, what must the flight crew do immediately?
Fit their oxygen masks
Who should bring the FCB when the PA is made for one?
The nearest cabin crew member
Who do you hand the sealed FCB to once landed ?
The ground staff
