Fire Protection Flashcards
The fire-detection system consists of ?
Dual sensing element loops monitored by a fire-detection unit.
Pulling an engine fire handle will ?
Close the respective fire shutoff valves in the fuel and hydraulic systems and the Over
Pressure and ShutOff Valve (OP/SOV) in the bleed-air system.
A normal fire test will result in what 6 indications / warnings ?
- Level 3 alert.
- Relevant fire handle light on.
- Relevant FUEL lever light on (OPEN position only).
- FIRE ENG 1 / 2 and LOOP A/ B ENG 1 / 2 messages at the LH MFDU.
- LOOP A and 8 FAULT lights on at the relevant ENGINE FIRE panel.
- ENG 1 / 2 alert light on at the SAP (SAP in back-up).
The APU is equipped with … ?
A fire-detection and a fire-extinguishing system
Additionally, a tail overheat detection system is installed.
The APU fire-detection system consists of ?
Dual sensing element loops monitored
by a fire-detection unit.
If in the APU comparment a predetermined temperature is reached what occurs ?
- The APU fire warning is presented
- The APU fire shutoff valve in the fuel system closes automatically, and \
- The APU shuts down.
If the aircraft is on the ground a warning horn, located in the nose wheel well, will also sound.
The tail overheat-detection system consists of an ?
Additional sensing element loops tied into the existing APU fire-detection
system.
Note - That because these loops are extentions of the APU sensing element loops,
there is no way of knowing, in the flight deck, if a fire or fault indication was
generated in the APU or the tail compartment.
In the case that the system detects an overheat in the tail compartment, a APU fire warning is presented.
How many fire bottles are installed for the APU ?
The APU fire warning signal discharges
the agent a few seconds after automatic
APU shutdown. This time delay is
necessary to close the ventilation system
of the APU
One fire-extinguisher bottle
A normal test of the APU fire-warning system will result in the following
5 warnings ?
- Level 3 alert.
2, APU FIRE light on at the APU FIRE panel. - FIRE APU and APU LOOP A and B messages at the LH MFDU.
4, LOOP A and B FAULT lights on at APU FIRE panel. - FIRE APU alert light on at the SAP (SAP in back-up).
NOTE: During test, the APU auto shutdown and auto fire extinguishing
and warning horn are inhibited.
The cargo and the toilet compartments
are equipped with ?
A smoke detection and a fire·extinguishing system
True / False - there are no system controls at the flight deck for the toilet compartments.
True
True / False - The cargo and toilet compartments have dual smoke detectors.
True
Each smoke detector system ….. is armed when the respective on the forward flight attendant’s panel is blank ?
LAVATORY SMOKE
DETECTION p/b
If smoke is detected, a smoke warning
will be presented in which location (s) ?
In the flight deck and in the cabin
How many fire-extinguisher bottles are installed for the forward and aft cargo compartments.
2
How many fire-extinguisher bottle(s) are installed in the waste container area in each toilet
compartment and what will occur in the event of a fire being detected in that compartment ?
1 and the agent will be discharged automatically into the waste compartment
How many mwo fire-extinguisher bottles are installed for the forward and aft cargo compartments ?
2
A smoke-warning system test will result in what 6 indications / warnings ?
- A double chime
- The master CAUTION lights come on.
- A smoke message is displayed at the LH MFDU.
NOTE: Depressing the SMOKE test button will also test the smoke warning system in the cabin and thus must be completed prior to passengers boarding
The APU fire warning signal discharges the agent a how long after automatic
APU shutdown and for what purpose ?
A few seconds. This time delay is necessary to close the ventilation system of the APU.
