Fire Protection Flashcards
What does the fire protection system provide fire detection and extinguishing capabilities for?
engines, APU, cargo compartments and lavatories
What happens when you pull the fire extinguishing handle?
shuts off the fuel and hydraulic shutoff valves and and bleed air valves
what happens when you rotate the fire handle left/right?
discharges the fire extinguishing bottle into the respective engine
what does the APU fire extinguishing guarded button do?
momentary action button
closes APU fuel shutoff valve and discharges the APU fire extinguisher bottle
what does the cargo fire detection/ fire extinguishing button (guarded)
momentary action button
according to system logic, discharges the high and low-rate bottles of the associated cargo compartment when the button is lit.
pressing the button when it is not illuminated arms the associated extinguishing bottle and the button illuminates red.
how long do you push the fire test button for? what happens if you hold it for too long?
3 seconds. anything more than 10 shuts the APU down
What are you looking for when you push the fire detection system button?

what is the fire protection system designed for?
fire detection, protection and continuous built in tests (BITs) to detect internal faults
what supplies electrical power for electrical fire detection?
MAU 1 (DC essential bus 1) and MAU 3 (DC essential bus 2)
what supplies electrical power for fire extinguishing?
HOT BATT BUS 1 and HOT BAT BUS 2
what is the APU Fire Extinguishing system comprised of?
one push button
one discharge bottle
what happens when you push the APU Fire Extinguishing button?
discharges the APU bottle
shuts down the APU thru the APU FADEC
closes the APU fuel shut off valve (SOV)
displays EICAS msg: APU FIREX BTL DISCH
Where is the APU bottle located?
near the rear fuselage
how many smoke detectors are in the cargo bays?
3 fwd
2 aft
what happens if smoke is detected in the fwd cargo bay?
air circulation fan automatically close and outflow valve closes
FWD fire extinguishing bottle is armed
what happens if smoke is detected in the aft cargo bay?
AFT fire extinguishing bottle is armed
what is the cargo fire extinguishing system comprised of?
one high-rate extinguishing
one low rate extinguishing
Where are the cargo fire extinguishing bottles located?
center avionics bay - can be used for either compartment
what happens after the annunciation of smoke detection in the cargo compartment?
pressing the associated cargo compartment button causes
the high-rate bottle to discharge immediately into selected cargo compartment.
the EICAS ADVISORY message CRG FIREX HI DISCH to display
one minute later the second fire extinguishing bottle discharges automatically at a reduced flow rate and the agent remains in the selected cargo compartment for 60 minutes
what smoke detection/protection do we have in the lavatories?
one smoke sensor on the ceiling, one fire extinguisher bottle in each lav waste container.
what happens if smoke is detected in either lavatory?
the mast WARNING light illuminates
the EICAS WARNING msg LAV SMOKE is displayed
in the lav where smoke has been detected - an alarm sounds and smoke detector light comes on
flashing amber light on the respective attendant lights panel (rainbow?) illuminates
