Fire Growth & Dangers Flashcards
4 phases of growth
1 incipient
2 growth
3 fully developed
4 decay
Describe fire loading
amount of heat energy released if all combustible materials were to reach ignition point and burn. calculated in energy per unit.
Combustible/structural materials?
furniture, storage, timber framed house and windows
Fire load assessment?
helps determine what firefighting resources will be needed, plans evac routes, fire resistant building materials
Incipient phase?
fire at point of origin, minimal smoke, can use fire ex to put out
Growth phase?
fire spreading and nearby materials can reach ignition point, rapid spread and begin to flash-over where all combustible materials pyrolize and reach ignition point.
Fully developed?
fire at peak intensity with all materials. building structure compromised. focus on containment and spread.
Decay phase?
FIRE DECREASES due to using all fuel. looking for hidden hot spots.
