What is fire discipline
Fire discipline is the language of fire control. It consists of words, phrases, rules and conventions which have specific meanings and which result in some definite actions taken at the guns.
What’s the aim of fire discipline
The aim of fire discipline is to ensure that in response to fire orders, appropriate action is taken at the guns, strictly in accordance with the intention of the originator and with the minimum of delay.
What is STAND FAST ?
STAND FAST. The order STAND FAST is used only in connection with local safety and may be ordered by a person in the interest of safety. On receipt, all personnel shall stand motionless at their positions.
What is CHECK FIRE
This order means to stop firing immediately. All action on the guns with the exception of firing shall continue in accordance with the orders received.
What is CEASE FIRE?
This order is given by the GPO/CPO to bring the guns out of action. It is never used by the observer. Cease firing shall not be given until:
a. an order to move the guns has been received; and
b. the guns are verified empty.
What is CEASE LOADING?
This order means that guns are not to be reloaded and fire shall be brought to an end with the bores clear. CEASE LOADING takes effect immediately and the guns will not be reloaded until the order CANCEL CEASE LOADING or initial orders for a new mission. All action on the guns with the exception of loading shall continue in accordance with the orders received.

- Warning Order : FIRE MISSION BTY
- Type of Engagement : ADJUSTING ZR 2015
- Trajectory : HIGH ANGLE
- Ammunition : HE, TIME CHARGE 4, PREPARE 3 RNDS PER GUN
- Converge: CONVERGE. NUMBER 1 (Note 1) LEFT 6, NUMBER 2 LEFT 3, etc.
- Bearing: BEARING 0568
- Quadrant Laying: QUADRANT LAYING
- Gun correction: GUN CORRECTIONS (Note 1) NUMBER 1 PLUS 2, NUMBER 1 MINUS 3, etc
- Fuze correction: FUZE CORRECTIONS, NUMBER 1 LENGTHEN 0.2, etc.
- Fuze setting: FUZE, NUMBER 1 26.2, NUMBER 2 27.2 etc.
- Load: NUMBER 3 LOAD
- At my command: AT MY COMMAND
- Elevation: ELEVATION 868.0

What is STAND EASY?
People can go back about their business, not around the guns.
To cancel; take post or new sequence of order
What is REST? And what cancels it?
People stand down but stay around the guns
To cancel: CANCEL REST
When do we use SAY AGAIN?
When you want a confirmation of the information given.
When can you issue LOAD
When a complete ammunition order has been received

What’s PREMATURE?
When a round explodes before it’s supposed to… report casualties
What’s NEGLECT
When an error is committed at the guns and the perpetrator realizes. One more round will be fired at proper settings
What to do when a gun has MECHANICAL FAILURE?
Mention what gun is out, for how long and for what reason
What is CRESTED?
Called if you have a crest, before your line of Fire or past it.
What does it mean when you hear ROUNDS COMPLETE
It’s reported on completion of each method of FFE.

What’s TAKE POST and what cancels it?
when detachments are required to assume their positions in action. TAKE POST is cancelled by the order STAND EASY or END OF MISSION.
What’s FPF, Fire
Indicates that the final protective fire is to be executed using the ammunition, the rate of fire and the duration stipulated in the (SOPs).
What’s CONTINUOUSLY FIRE?
This order is used when the guns are to be loaded and fired continuously at FFE. On this order, the guns shall continue to fire until either fire is temporarily suspended by CEASE LOADING, CHECK FIRING or the fire mission is terminated
What is VERIFY?
Attention is drawn to an obvious mistake or omission by the use of the prefix VERIFY, e.g., VERIFY DROP 800 The response will be I VERIFY
