Who is responsible for determining the cause of fires occurring under his command?
Incident Commander
If the fire appears to be intentionally started, suspicious or the cause is undetermined the Incident Commander shall notify?
Communications and request an Arson Investigator.
The Incident Commander shall not permit extensive overhaul operations until?
Cause of the fire has been determined or the Arson Investigator has completed the fire scene investigation.
At fire scene where Arson is responding - however?
Limited overhaul can be conducted to prevent fire extension.
Where evidence of an Arson is found or suspected, the IC shall allow nothing to be disturbed, except?
that which is absolutely necessary to extinguish the fire.
Where evidence of arson is found or suspected, the Incident Commander will
remain on the fire ground until the Arson Investigator arrives.
If the IC must leave the scene, he shall
leave a fire company officer and crew in charge who is familiar with the aspects of the particular fire to secure the scene
prevent the disturbance of conditions surrounding the fire
and deny entry to unauthorized persons
Members receiving such assignment shall
shall refrain from discussion of the fire except with authorized personnel.
All arson investigators will follow the
Cancer Initiative Policy #622 while on scene up to and including decontamination if necessary.
Arson Investigators shall respond to
fires involving habitations, building, or vehicle that are incendiary, suspicious or of undetermined origin.
The following are types of fires requiring an arson investigator response
other types of structure - sheds, phone booths, mailboxes, fences that are incendiary, suspicious or undermined in origin
When requesting an investigator on fires other than a habitation, building or vehicle include
a brief description of the situations that so that information can be relayed to the investigator.
Arson Investigators respond to all
fire deaths or fire injuries likely to result in death, except those related to transportation incidents involving motor vehicle accidents, air craft crashes etc where it is obvious that the transportation incident is the result of the accident
Arson Investigators response to grass/trash
investigators do not normally respond to grass / trash fires
Arson Investigators response to grass/trash - however
if one of the following conditions exist, call an investigator for assistance and instructions
an intentionally set grass/trash fire that damages a structure
reoccurring grass/trash fire
a suspect has been apprehended
information on suspect
explosive or incendiary device - all suspected explosive or incendiary devices including but not limited to pipe bombs, acid bombs, molotoc cocktails, package/ mail bombs
all explosions
