provide SAFE HAVEN for the infant

infant NOT ABUSED and LESS than 5 days old
not up to members to determine age or abuse

When an individual approaches fire unit in field or at quarters and wants to abandon infant…Officer shall?

Answer 4

• request AMBULANCE
• notify dispatch/unit will be 10-99 until ambulance assumes custody

members may inquire if infant has MEDICAL PROBLEMS or has seen a PHYSICIAN (no other info should be elicited)

Officer makes JOURNAL ENTRY and UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE REPORT: reports includes:
date/time
how notified
sex/race
custody of ambulance crew
unit designation and shield of ambulance

If dispatcher advises fire unit that an infant has been reported abandoned at firehouse, Officer shall?

order search conducted
