What is die cutting?
The process of cutting and creasing sheets of materials
Describe the process of die cutting
A blade (like a pastry cutter) is mounted on a press, and then forced down onto the material
What is foil printing?
The process of heating and applying pressure to transfer foil onto the material
Describe the process of foiling
A magnesium/copper plate heats up and applies pressure when the foil is sandwiched together between the heated plate and material being printed on
What is embossing?
The process of creating a 3d image on paper or other sheet material using a shaped die
Describe the process of embossing
A metal die (female) and counter die (male) come together and apply heat and pressure as they squeeze the fibres of the material and raise the level of the image
What is varnishing?
A smooth glossy finish that improves the way a product looks
What is laminating?
Sandwiching a document (menu, business card, packaging) between two layers of plastic
