Finishing Process Flashcards
What are the 4 types of edgers?
Pattern
Patternless
Wet-cut
Dry-cut
Pattern edgers
A pattern is required to edge the lens.
The pattern is a flat disc usually made of plastic that resembles the desired shape of the lens for the frame.
Patternless edgers
Information from a frame tracer is transferred to the edgers database. Once the order is entered, the edger will have the necessary information to edge the frame based off the frame tracers measurements.
Wet- cut edgers
Typically utilize a grind wheel in which to edge the lens to the desired shape and size.
This edger system uses water to continually rinse the cut debris from the grinding chamber and into a whole tank below.
Depending on the material type, other water spouts will apply water directly on the lens during the edging process.
These edgers have multiple wheels to rough cut, fine cut, and polish the lens bevel.
Dry-cut edgers
Trimmed the lens to the required shape and size with one or more cutting blades.
The blades remove the lens material allowing it to fall to the bottom of the edger housing were a vacuum is attached with a hose.
The swarf (lens shavings)
Is then collected in a storage chamber which is emptied periodically at which the debris is discarded.
