Finishing And Polishing Flashcards
Wear which occurs when abrasive particles are firmly bonded to the surface of the abrasive instrument and no other abrasive particles are used
Two-body wear
A removal process that can occur whenever surfaces slide each other
Abrasive wear
Wear which occurs when abrasive particles are free to rotate and translate between two surfaces
Three-body wear
Aka hard particle abrasion or erosion; caused by hard particles impacting a substrate surface carried either by a stream of air or a stream of liquid
Erosive wear
Abrasive instruments derived from materials that have been crushed and passes through a series of Mesh screens to obtain different particle-size ranges
Abrasive grits
Abrasive particles that are incorporated through a binder to form grinding tools
Bonded abrasives
Abrasive particles secured to a flexible backing material (heavy weight paper, metal or mylar) with a suitable adhesive material
Coated abrasive disks and strips
