Q

What is the superglue fuming process ?

A

In a sealed chamber, liquid superglue is heated to create Cyanocrylate fumes.
Water is also heated to increase humidity.
I’m the presence of humidity, cyanocrylate fumes transform into a solid in a process called polymerisation.
Cyanocrylate fumes are attracted to greasy and moist surfaces found on latent fingerprints, and solidifys into a hard, white polymer that can be visible.

16
Q

Can all chemicals be store together?

A

No some chemicals need to be stored separately and more dangerous chemicals are kept in a lockable cabinet

17
Q

When taking photographs of print through glass what must you do?

A

Write Thru glass on the FEN so FPB know that it’s reversed

18
Q

Can you use fingerprint powders on the deceased at the scene to obtain a fingerprint photograph?

A

No, it’s not to be done at the scene (only photographs alone) unless coroners permission

19
Q

What are the minimum details required on a FEN?

A

Date
Surface/ location
If vehicle- rego or vin or description
Other location- address or surname of complainant/ victim
Property- property tag number or description

20
Q

Can abbreviation be used on the FEN?

A

Yes but not on the exhibit FR entry

21
Q

What are the stages of examination?

A
  1. Visual
  2. Lighting
    3.
22
Q

What is a porous surface?

A

E.g. fabric, wood, paper.

23
Q

What chemical examinations can be used on porous surfaces?

A

Ninhydrin
Indanedione
Physical developer and Oil Red O

24
Q

What is a non porous surface ?

A

E.g. glass, plastic, metal.

25
Q

What type of development would you use on non porous surfaces?

A

Black, white, fluorescent and magnetic powders.
Wet powder
Small partial reagent
Superglue
Fuming enhancement
Vacuum metal deposition

26
Q

What do you need to note on the chemical bottles before use?

A

Batch number
Prep date
Expiry date
Who prepared it
If it’s been batch tested
Check it’s working not stock solution
