What is fine needle aspiration?
A
Thin needle is inserted into a mass for histopathological sampling of cells.

What are the indications for fine needle aspiration? (x3)
A
- A biopsy on a lump or a tissue mass when its nature is in question
- For known tumours, the biopsy is performed to assess the effect of treatment
- Aspiration of fluid for sampling or therapeutically e.g., breast cysts/abscess

What are the complications of fine needle aspiration? (x4)
A
- Complications are rare
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Pneumothorax
- Pancreatitis in cases of pancreas FNA
