Freudian- Hans concerned that his widdler would be cut off, castration anxiety
Alternative- fearful of horses due to overhearing someone say ‘don’t put your finger to the horse or it’ll bite you’
Horses with blinkers phobia
Freudian- horse represents Hans father with the blinkers being like glasses
Hans fearful of carts
Freudian- seen as desire for his father to die so he could have mum to himself
Alternative- Hans had seen a bus horse fall down and kick out its feet, a scary experience
Hans afraid of being drowned in the bath
Freudian- death wish against sister Hannah, Hans hoped his mother would drop her in so he could have her to himself
Alternative- young children can be frightened of water
Fantasy about the giraffes
Freudian- the fact that Hans had come into their room was seen as a desire for his mothers genital organs
Alternative- Hans visited a zoo days earlier
Hans playing with imaginary friend and having children with his mum, and his dad being the grandfather
Freudian- suggesting conclusion to Oedipus complex where Hans can have his mother without killing his father
Alternative- children have imaginary friends
