Tone
Attitude that a character, narrator, or author has towards the subject matter or audience
Figurative language
A way of expressing oneself without use of a words strict meaning
Anecdote
A short or interesting story about a real incident or person
Theme
Main idea or underlying meaning a writer explores in a novel, short story, or literary work
Dialogue
Conversation between two or more people as featured
First person point of view
The narrator in stash of the story tells the story from their point of view.
for example, I, me, we 
Hyperbole
Exaggerated statements, or claims not meant literally
Connotation
Idea or feeling word invokes, in addition to literal/primary meaning ( feelings suggested)
Denotation
Literal meaning of word
Persuasive appeal (ethos, pathos, logos)
Ethos, appeals to credibility, pathos appeals to emotion, and logos appeals to logic 
Independent clause
A group of words that contain a subject, and a verb, and expresses complete thought. Can stand alone
Dependent clause
A group of words that have a subject plus verb, but do not express a complete thought. Cannot stand alone 
Style manual (MLA, APA, etc.)
Everything a writer needs to know in order to make their work look and read appropriately
A simple sentence
A sentence containing only one clause, a single subject and predicate.
For example. Joe waited for the train. The train was late. 
Compound sentence
Two independent clauses, joined by a coordinating conjunction and a comma/ semi colon. For example. The pirate captain lost her treasure map, but she still found the buried treasure.
