Finals Study Flashcards
What is elevated blood pressure?
Systolic - 120-129
Diastolic - < 80
What is high blood pressure stage 1?
Systolic - 130-139
Diastolic - 80-90
What is the difference between essential hypertension and secondary?
Essential is where the cause of elevated BP is unknown
Secondary is attributed is a definable cause (renal disease)
What happens to diastolic function with Hypertensive Heart Disease?
Reduced E velocity prolonged IVRT, prolonged decel, increased A velocity
- if LV dysfunction is present, presents as pseudonormal
What happens to systolic function with Hypertensive Heart Disease?
Is preserved early in disease course
WMA occur when CAD is present
- small hypertrophied heart with normal LV function
What cardiomyopathy isn’t a true cardiomyopathy?
Hypertensive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (represents end-organ damage due to hypertension)
What is ‘Cor Pulmonale’?
Alternative name for pulmonary heart disease
- chronic pulmonary hypertension due to intrinsic lung disease, pulmonary emboli, or primary hypertension
What do you need to classify a heart disease as a pulmonary heart disease?
The cause must ORIGINATE in the pulmonary circulation
With pulmonary heart disease, what will you see in PLAX with chronic pressure overload?
Dilated RV and RVH
With pulmonary heart disease, what will you see in PSAX?
Bowing of the IVS (D-shaped septum)
RV dilation and hypertrophy
In pulmonary hypertension, how does the apex usually appear?
Frequently hyopertrophied and akinetic
With Pulmonary Hypertension, what are you assessing in subcostals?
RV dysfunction and thickness of RV walls
What is a normal RVSP?
< 36 mmHg
What value is borderline pulmonary hypertension?
36 - 39 mmHg
What value is mild pulmonary hypertension?
40 - 49 mmHg
