Q

When drawing a trig function from an equation and it says cosine, where does the graph start?

A

On the top (the crest) but if the amplitude in the equation has a negative sign then it starts on the bottom (the trough)

Q
I'm y= a cosb ( x-c ) + d
Or y= a sinb ( x-c ) + d
How do you find the:
Amplitude
Frequency
Phase shift
Vertical displacement
Period of 1 cycle
Equation of node line
Max y-value and min y- value
A

Amplitude is a (always positive)
Frequency is b
Phase shift is c (always the opposite of what is in the parenthesis for ex. If it says (x-4) then you shift 4 to the right)
Vertical displacement is d (if it is positive value then the displacement goes up. If it is a negative value then the displacement goes down.)
Period of one cycle you have to do the equation thing when it gets you to for ex. 0

Q

How do you find the range?

A

Does the graph pass the horizontal asymptote?
If no then it is part of the range!
Does the graph pass the y value of the hole in any other place than the hole?
If no then it is part of the range!
