Alliteration

Personification
Giving something non-living (inanimate) human characteristics
Hyperbole

Allusion
A reference an author makes expecting his reader to understand (usually to another piece of lit, art, history or music)
Tone
The attitude a writer take toward his subject, characters or reader
Protagonist
The character in a narrative with whom we sympathize
Dramatic Irony
Something the reader/viewer knows that the characters do not
Symbol
Anything that stands for or represents something other and greater than itself
Antagonist
The person, circumstance or force that conflicts with the protagonists
Setting
The time and place that a narrative takes place
Theme
The main idea or point that the author tries to express through his work
Artistic License
The authors bending of rules in either grammar or reality for an intended effect
Foreshadow
The use of hints or clues in a narrative suggesting what is to come
