Final Study Guide Flashcards
What percentage of grey is considered the “perfect” amount?
18%
What are the 2 types of lenses we have in class?
Zoom and prime
How are shutter speeds measured?
In fractions of time (seconds) - 1/60, 1/125, 1/250, 1/500, 1/1000, 1/4000
What happens when a shutter speed is faster?
The higher the number and it photographs the subject without blur and “freezes” motion and has shorter exposure (less light)
What happens when a shutter speed is slower?
The lower the number and gives more blurry background and allows more light
What is ISO?
International Standards Organization and it is a standardized industry scale for measuring sensitivity to light
Natural ISO measurements
100,200,400,800,1600,3200
ISO’s that are over or under exposed
160,250,320,500,640,1000,1200
What is Shutter Speed?
HOW FAST YOUR CAMERA OPENS AND SHUTS THE SHUTTER
What is Aperture?
The size of the opening in the lens. It affects how much of the image is in focus. Its measured in f-stops
What does a wide open aperture do?
let more light into the image for a brighter photo and makes the background be creamy and unfocused; wide opening f-stop like f/1.8
What does a smaller/narrow aperture do?
lets in less light and keeps more of the image sharp; narrow f-stop like f/22
What is AV?
Aperture value
What does DSLR mean?
Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera
What does contrast mean?
the difference between two colors or between the lightest lights and darkest darks in an image
What is Bokeh?
the orbs created when lights are out of focus in an image; created by wide apertures
What is Exposure?
how light or dark an image is; controlled through aperture, shutter speed and ISO
what is underexposed
dark photo, wasnt exposed to enough light
what is overexposed
light photo, exposed to too much light
What is Noise?
little flecks in an imagine, also known as grain; images with high ISOs have a lot of noise
What are Leading Lines?
used to draw a viewers attention to a specific part of the frame, whether it’s a person, or a vanishing point in the background of the frame.
What is the Rule Of Thirds?
dividing the scene in thirds with imaginary lines and have the main subject be placed at the intersection of those lines
What is Bulls Eyeing?
when you place the main subject right smack in the center of the picture
Where is the hot shoe?
the slot at the top of a camera for adding accessories, like hot shoe flash
What are the different auto focus modes on your camera?
One Shot AF, AI Servo AF, and AI Focus AF
What does Metering mean?
used to measure the brightness of the subject.
What shooting modes is there?
single shot and al servo/continuous focus
What is depth of field?
the range of distance in front and behind the focus point that stays sharp
What is TV?
Time Value
What is M?
Manual
What are the 3 shooting modes?
aperture value (av), time value (tv), manual (m)
What are the 2 file types?
Jpeg and raw
Difference between Jpeg and raw?
raw: bigger file size and you can edit it more
jpeg: smaller file size and you can’t edit it as much
what is texture?
brings life and vibrance to images that would otherwise appear flat and uninspiring; captures high levels of detail
light metering?
measure of light in a picture
