They are composed, not documentary.
What is a contemporary artist? (Still working, not dead, etc.)
The artist who is still alive and creating artwork in the current time.
The work of contemporary artists is a dynamic combination of materials, methods, concepts, and subjects that challenge traditional boundaries. It can be provocative and controversial, and it’s not easy to define what is appropriate in art or not.
How art photography evolved in the late 20th century?
Many different artists with different styles emerged post war as new technology and culture were introduced. It is hard to define contemporary art in photography because artists no longer work with a similar theme and similar aesthetics.
Their style varies from a documentary style street photography to staged/composed style conceptual photography. Color has been used and more accepted in photography as the cost and quality of color print significantly improved. Digital manipulation has been used as well which allows artists to create dynamic, cinematic images they have in their mind. They have more options to express themselves as an artist.
How did different contemporary artists use photography in their
work? (Remember, you can use examples from your presentations on
With a variety of image processign tools and new technology, now contemporary photographers have myriad styles and aesthetics to choose from.
Hiroshi Sugimoto uses classic tecgnique such as large format camera with homemade batch of chemical developper (a recipe published by Ansel Adams) to ceate something new along with the technique he’s known for: extremely long exposure.
