Mature women makeup tips
- skin must be exfoliated and hydrated well before makeup application
- do not use dark lipstick colours because it looks aging
- do not use liquid liners, they are too harsh. instead, use eye pencils or shadows for a softer look. Do not apply dark liner in the waterline, it will make eyes appear smaller
- making the eyes the focal point will distract the eye from fine lines and wrinkles. Use colours that compliment the clients eye colour.
- must use a primer before foundation to fill or blur lines in the skin, promotes a smoother surface
- highlighting will create a more youthful look. Avoid shimmer because it exaggerates imperfections. Use matte or satin finish highlighters on the highpoints of the face.

Lipliner tips
- tell client to keep mouth closed when shaping lips
- when lining the corners of the mouth, mouth can be open
- stretching the mouth by smiling creates a straiter line
- use a dull pencil for a more feather look
- blend pencil and lipstick to erase harsh lines
- lip pencils are necessary to correct imperfections such as thin or uneven lip shapes
- Remember to sharpen your lip pencils for best application
dark lips
- do not leave excess emollients on the lips, they will prevent clean lines when applying pencil, lip primer can be used instead
- use a full coverage powder or concealer before lining the lips to fade natural lip colour, can also make it easier to manipulate the shape of the lips and create a sharp line
- after applying liner and lipstick use a small brush to achieve clean lines

Lipstick formulas
Cream- high shine finish , soft and creamy
Frost- metallic pearly finish, can appear metallic, shimmery or iridescent on the lips
Glaze- glossy finish, sheer pigment, most natural finish
Matte- opaque coverage, highly pigmented, long lasting, drying on the lips
Retro matte- mattest formula, must tug on lips to apply
Satin- velvety finish, opaque coverage, some sheen
bridal makeup tips
- consultation before the event to establish desired look and timeline to perform service
- Learn bride’s colour preferences and preferred makeup look
- collaborate with a hair stylist for time management
- offer retail products and other services, such as facials and waxing
- facials should be performed at least 2-3 weeks before a special occasion to consider potential skin reactions
- waxing services should be performed 1-2 weeks before the occasion
- test makeup products before the occasion to ensure they are effective for the client and there are no skin reactions or complications
- in general, bridal makeup enhances the natural beauty of the client. it is usually best to stick to neutral or warm colours and soft application techniques. However, always adjust the look to fit the clients expectations.
colour selection tips
- determine skin tone: light, medium, dark
- determine undertone: cool, neutral, or warm
- fair and medium skin tones can bee cool, neutral or warm
- olive skin tones are either neutral or warm, red/olive undertones
- deep or dark skin tones are cool=red, neutral=red and yellow, warm=yellow
- neutral skin tones fair to medium are pink and yellow.
- ruddy skin= very red
- sallow skin= unhealthy yellow or pale brown colour
face shapes
-there are 7 face shapes: oval, round, square, oblong, triangle(pear), heart, diamond
OVAL is the most symmetrically and balanced. Widest at the temples and forehead, curved chin
ROUND faces are even in length and width
SQUARE faces have a broad forehead and angular jawline
OBLONG/RECTANGULAR faces are longer than it is wide, cheeks are straight down the sides
TRIANGLE/PEAR faces have narrow foreheads and cheeks and a wider jawline
HEART faces are widest at the forehead with a narrower jaw line and pointed chin
DIAMOND faces are narrow at the forehead and jawline, widest at cheekbones
Contouring tips for face shapes
OVAL- contour cheekbones
HEART- contour the sides of the forehead and the cheeks
OBLONG- contour the perimeter of the forehead and the chin
ROUND- contour the sides of the face, leaving space at the centre of the forehead and the chin
SQUARE- contour the sides of the forehead and the jawline
DIAMOND- contour the cheek area from
the highpoint of the cheekbones, to just before the chin
Strobing vs highlighting
Highlighting is paired with contouring
Strobing is highliting itself with a dewy, illuminating finish. Can be mixed with foundation or applied on the high-points of the face
False lash tips
- pick style
- measure the length to the eye and cut if needed
- curve the lashes to follow the natural curve of the eye
- apply glue to lashes and allow it to set for about 20 seconds
- apply as close as possible to the lash line with tweezers
Foundations
Definition:
- base makeup
- conceal imperfections, even the skin tone, protects the skin from outside elements
- neutralizes pigmentation, redness,dark circles
- liquid- oily-normal, sheer-medium coverage
- contains bentonite clay to absorb oil, alcohol and water based solutions, organic and inorganic pigments
-cream: thick, full coverage, dry-normal skin
**cake makeup- heavy cream foundation, for theatre of film
**greasepaint- heavy cream, alcohols, for short period of time
Powder foundation- powder base with colour pigments
FoRmUlAs:
-oil based- normal to dry skin
- water based- oily and sensitive skin, matte finish
- silicone- great choice for bridal makeup, prolonged wear and even surface
- alcohol based- durable, special effects, not ideal for prolonged wear, not for dry skin
Primers

- provides smooth surface, prevents natural oils breaking down makeup
