final prep Flashcards
What are the 5 filters we need to know
yellow #8
red #25
green #58
polarizing
neutral density
What does the polarizing filter do
reduces the reflection on glass/water +atmosphere
what do you need to do do use the polarizing filter
set up at a 35 degree angle. rotate the filter until there is a reduction in reflection. You have to use a handheld meter because its typically a 2 stop change
Green filter
better for christmas, makes red darker
yellow/red filter
good for landscape photography
yellow will lessen density of the sky and red will do it even more.
red will also reduce the density of the leaves because it also blocks green
WHat does red/yellow block
red blocks green and blue
yellow blocks blue
neutral density filters - what do they do with aperture
reduce the amount of light when you need more creative controls
when you are at 1/1000 and f/8 but want to go shallower with the depth but cant with the light. Then you use a ND filter that will take the light down 2/4/6 stops.
neutral density filter with shutter speed and motion
when you want to display motion however there is a lot of light you need the ND so you can have a slow shutter speed. reduce the light
What are direct lighting examples
sun, light bulbs, lighting that directly is hitting you/you can see
what is indirect lighting examples
source that cant directly see you, reflecting off of something
What does direct light vs indirect light do to photos
direct light makes photos harsh and high contrast. soft light is diffused and low contrast.
using a flash on the camera
Stick on the camera and attach to a circuit. we want to synch the light with the camera. When you use flash you don’t use a normal meter.
What is synch speed
1/60th for our cameras
synch speed is the fastest shutter speed when you use flash. you need the shutter to be open when the flash goes off
what happens when there is issues with flash and synch speed
half frame mistakes
How to find the correct fstop with flash with the dials
use the distance from the flash to the subject
when you have a range you use the longest range
