3
Q

what do you need to do do use the polarizing filter

A

set up at a 35 degree angle. rotate the filter until there is a reduction in reflection. You have to use a handheld meter because its typically a 2 stop change

Q

yellow/red filter

A

good for landscape photography
yellow will lessen density of the sky and red will do it even more.
red will also reduce the density of the leaves because it also blocks green

7
Q

neutral density filters - what do they do with aperture

A

reduce the amount of light when you need more creative controls
when you are at 1/1000 and f/8 but want to go shallower with the depth but cant with the light. Then you use a ND filter that will take the light down 2/4/6 stops.

8
Q

neutral density filter with shutter speed and motion

A

when you want to display motion however there is a lot of light you need the ND so you can have a slow shutter speed. reduce the light

Q

What does direct light vs indirect light do to photos

A

direct light makes photos harsh and high contrast. soft light is diffused and low contrast.

Q

using a flash on the camera

A

Stick on the camera and attach to a circuit. we want to synch the light with the camera. When you use flash you don’t use a normal meter.

13
Q

What is synch speed

A

1/60th for our cameras
synch speed is the fastest shutter speed when you use flash. you need the shutter to be open when the flash goes off

Q

How to find the correct fstop with flash with the dials

A

use the distance from the flash to the subject
when you have a range you use the longest range

16
Q

when doing auto flash

A

you set it up with the camera and the flash will have a sensor. the flash will know how long to burn the bulb to have the correct flash.

17
Q

What is a TTL

A

through the lens metering
when you use flash it bounces back into the camera lens and cam will talk with the flash

18
Q

Jiffy pop

A

moving with burning or dodging

19
Q

peanut butter and jelly

A

emulsion to emulsion

20
Q

Critiquing formula

A

context + subject matter + form = content

21
Q

digital photography file formats

A

pdf: compressed file
Tiff: non compressed, altered
raw: raw image

22
Q

What is CCD

A

charged coupled device
sensor in the digital camera
the CCD takes the place of the film plane on a digital camera

23
Q

What is the smallest and the largest aperture we need to know

A

f/2 is a large opening in the camera. f/32 is a tiny opening.

24
Q

List the shutter speeds on the wheel

A

1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/15, 1/30, 1/60, 1/125, 1/250, 1/500, 1/1000

25
Q

List the f-stops on the wheel

A

f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16, f/22, f/23

26
Q

What is the Daguerreo type

A

A form of photography that was created by Joc Luie Daguerre. The photo was made on a highly polished plate of copper that was treated with ionized silver.

27
Q

What is the Calotype

A

Created by William Henry Fox Talbot. The first reproducible form of photography. Used a piece of sensitized paper. Incorporated the negative to positive process.
