Not afraid to ask. No fear of failure
How can I serve?
Don’t wait until you have a degree to produce products
Be patient. You are not going to hit a home run every time that you try.

  1. You need to have a mentor or supervisor that is going to teach you, train you and mentor you.
  2. The internship is an opportunity for you to practice in real life the theories you’ve learned, the skills you’ve learned, the content you’ve learned, and so it really does need to be something that is marriage and family-focused, and we’ll talk more about the specific requirements, but one of them that it has to have is a marriage and family component.
  3. Make sure that your internship site works with their schedule and your schedule so that you can make sure and get all those hours in. The other question we sometimes get is can I do a remote internship? Meaning, can I work with a company where I’m just doing all the work from home. And the answer generally is no, you can’t do that, because again, you have to have that onsite supervisor.
  4. How do I find an internship? Oh no, I have to find my own.” Number one, I wouldn’t be too worried because although it is smart to start ahead and to start contacting agencies to see if they’re willing to do it, keep in mind that most of the internships in this field are not paid. if you think of an ideal job and you find something in Pennsylvania that you think, “That would be cool,” call them up and say, “Do you ever do internships? Will you pay an intern? What would I need to do to prepare to be a good intern applicant for your organization?” Start that now. There is no harm in making those connections so that when the time comes it’s easy for you to find a place that would be glad to have you and would be a great experience for you and for them.
