Final Exam Words to know Flashcards
Vascular resistance
-Vascular resistance defines how much pressure we have
-Pressure drives flow
-The greater the resistance, the less flow.
-The less the resistance, the greater the flow.
What is the inverse of vascular resistance?
Vascular Conductance
-The ease at which blood can flow through a vessel
What is Poiseulles law?
Formula that uses viscosity and density to determine vascular resistance.
What is in control of how much fluid we have in our body?
The kidney
What is the “choke point”?
Small arteries and arterioles
What do you expect to see on the proximal side of high resistance vessels?
High pressure
What do you expect to we on the distal side of high resistance vessels?
Low pressure
What is Laminar flow?
Refers to the smooth flow of fluid with minimal mixing between them.
We want this flow every where
It is efficient and doesn’t cause problems
What is turbulent flow?
Disorderly flow/ pathological
We don’t want this.
Inefficient
How much of our CO does our kidney get?
20% of our CO
1L/min
Much more perfusion than they actually need
Delta pressure
Delta pressure is the difference between one end of the tube and the other end of the tube
-large diff= a lot of flow
-small diff= less flow
