Final Exam Review Flashcards
Apipa
stands for Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA). It is a feature or characteristic in operating systems (eg. Windows) which enables computers to self-configure an IP address and subnet mask automatically when their DHCP(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) (Ip address cant be found) server isn’t reachable.
DMZ (demilitarized zone)
VPA esc used to protect a company’s internal lan from untrusted traffic
DVI port types
bronze end- connects a video source to a monitor
Fault tolerance
operating system still runs when system fails
Interface standard
is a standard that describes one or more functional characteristics or physical characteristics necessary to allow the exchange of information between two or more systems or pieces of equipment.
CDFS (compact disc file system
is a type of file system used to burn data onto CDs.
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)
is the most recent version of the Internet Protocol (IP), the communications protocol that provides an identification and location system for computers on networks and routes traffic across the Internet.
Loopback plug
A connector used for diagnosing transmission problems
Mac Address
Like an ip address for macs
multiple virtual envionrments
a game
NTFS (New Technology File System)
used for storing, organizing, and finding files on a hard disk drive efficiently
Pixel Pitch
Pixel pitch is the distance (usually in millimeters) between pixels.
dead pixels
defecitve pixels on an lcd that are not performing as expeced
Laser printer
They work by placing toner on an electrically charged rotating drum called the imaging drum, transferring the toner onto paper as the paper moves through the system, and then fusing the toner to the paper.
The seven steps of progressive laser printing
- processing
- charging
- exposing
- developing
- transferring
- fusing
- cleaning
Inkjet printer
uses a type of ink-dispersion printing and doesn’t normally provide the high-quality resolution of laser printers
Impact printer
An impact printer creates a printed page by using some mechanism that touches or hits the paper.
Dot matrix printer
The best-known impact printer, which prints only text that it receives as raw data. Uses pins to shoot again a cloth ribbon.
Thermal printers
Use heat to create an image
Direct thermal printer
Burns dots on thermal paper
Thermal transfer paper
melts a ribbon onto special thermal paper
Rj45
Jacks used in netowrking
RJ11
cable connector used in telephone sets
S.M.A.R.T (Self Monitoring Analysis and reporting Technology)
Used to predict when a drive is likely to fail
Which rotation speed is not a typical spindle rotation speed for magnetic hard drives?
3200
Sata 6 gb/s standard is know by what other name
sata III
Describe a sata cable
long, with 7 pins
Sata III
also known as Sata 6 gb/s
What does satellite connection require?
line of sight connectivity
scalable services
Scalability means that as the load offered to a service increases, a data service can add new stuff without worry
Solid state-drive
Memory does not lose its data even after the power is turned off. holds
a 0 or 1 state according to a logic test called NAND. (NAND flash memory)
