Thesis: Often times, humans and thus characters find themselves either regretting their pasts or feeling nostalgic for a life they once knew. Both of these points, regret and nostalgia, center back to the idea of wishing to go back in time. The ideology of the wish of going back in time to either redo a dilemma or relive an experience can be seen heavily in Jennifer Egan’s A Visit From the Goon Squad and Tobias Wolff’s Bullet in the Brain through the urge to have another chance at life when the realization of an end is nearing.
