Q

Delamination Strength of Secondary Backing for Pile Floor Covering test

A
measures the force needed to pull the floor covering and backing apart
use standard condition
separate the backing 1.5" from the floor covering
clamp to the machine at 12+- .5"/min
•Delamination strength
▪Defined as (A+B+C)/3W
▪A=five peak average of specimen No.1
▪B=five peak average of specimen No.2
▪C=five peak average of specimen No.3
▪W = specimen width in inches

Q

Tuft Bind of Pile Floor Covering test

A

determines force required to pull a tuft completely out of pile floor covering
take 3 cut tuft from same row of the specimen
for looped pile select location where 3 adjacent loops are formed, cut completely through the 1st and 3rd loops and test the severe
repeat onto additional loops from other rows

Q

Mushroom Apparel Flammability Tester (MAFT) test

A

Usually used for military clothing, firefighters, etc.
Sample size 24x12” sample is suspended from a collar pinned together
Flame from a no. 18 hypodermic needle
Ignition is on the surface 4” above the bottom of the sample
Flame can spread in different directions
Cut small hole in ignition area to let flame burn on both sides of the fabric to create the worst situation
The heat transferred to the inside of the specimen is measured by 16 thermocouples around the cylinder and 4 at the top of the ring of the cylinder
Rated 1-4
4- ignition occurs within ½ second
3- ignition does not occur in ½ second but in 1 second
2- ignition does not occur in 1 second
1- ignition times is 3-12 seconds and a max heat transfer is 0.096 cal/cm2
