What is the difference between Phrases and Clauses
Clauses have a subject and a verb and express a complete thought. Phrases are a group of words characterized by one part of speech.
Name the different kinds of phrases.
Noun phrases, verb phrases, prepositional phrases, infinitive phrases, gerund phrases and participle phrases.

It’s a noun phrase. The very pretty silk scarf is the subject.

What are Verb Phrases?
Phrase which includes all the verbs within a sentence.
What kind of verbs are found in verb phrases?
Verb phrases include the main verb (action of linking) PLUS any helping verbs in the sentence.
What are modal auxiliaries?
Can, could, may, might, will, would, shall, should, ought…
What are non-modal auxiliaries?
Non-modal auxiliaries= Be, Have, Do and they are found in helping verbs.
What are prepositional phrases?
Prep phrases begin with a preposition and includes a noun/pronoun object.
What are prepositions?
They are small words that indicate relationships among elements in a sentence: usually time, direction or location.
