Saccharin

A

Oldest artificial sweetener, heat stable, rapidly excreted in urine, 300X sweeter than sucrose, slightly bitter aftertaste. Canada: banned in foods (1970), approved in some (2016). Not during pregnancy. Sold table top, can be bought by everyone. Approved for addititives. Hermesetas

Not legal to use as additives and not safe to cook it, yet, unstable = flavour changes when heated. Table top sweetener. Not pregnancy. Sucaryl, sugar twin, sweet n low

Aspartame

A

4kcal/g but we always need less than that (200X sweeter than sucrose) so non-nutrutive. Made of aspartic acid and phenylalanine( Phenylketonuria (PKU) should avoid. Not heat stable, but ok for additives. Safe within recommended intake (40mg/kg/day 95packets). Ok pregnancy. Diet coke.
Nutrasweet: bkfst cereals, soft drinks, yogurt, dessert, candy, gum
Equal: powder for home use.

A

Made from sucrose, 600X sweeter than sucrose. Soft drink, candy, baked goods, frozen desserts, baking (heat stable). Ok pregnancy. Splenda
