Unintentional Injury

Intentional Injury
An injury purposely inflicted either by the victim or another

Person was disabled beyond the day of the injury
Drug abuse vs misuse
Drug misuse is when you inappropriately use prescription or nonprescription drugs (basically do not take it as directed)
Drug abuse is the use of a drug when it is detrimental to ones health or well being
Stimulants
Energy drinks, meth, adderall, bath salts
They all cause stimulation effects like staying focused and attentive and a high level of energy.
Depressants
Barbiturates, benzo’s, hypnotics, xanax, Valium
They all slow down the CNS and can induce sleep.
Narcotics
Pain relievers, morphine, codeine, Demerol, OxyContin, Lortab, Percocet, heroin, krokodil, Vicodin, dilaudid
They all relieve pain in one way or another
Hallucinogens
LSD, peyote, ecstasy, ketamine, pcp
Drugs that produce profound distortions of the senses
Synesthesia
Impairment of mind characterized by a sensation that senses are mixed
Point source pollution
Single identifiable source, relatively easy to identify, control and treat
Non-Point Source Pollution
Pollution through runoff, seepage, etc, difficult to identify, control and treat

Average American uses 100 gallons of water daily
Primary Wastewater Treatment
Screening, filtration and sedimentation. Does not remove micro organisms or organic waste
Secondary Wastewater Treatment
Activated sludge removes pathogens
Water 90% clean and can be discharged into waterways
Tertiary Wastewater Treatment
Involves extended settling
Final step involves disinfection with chlorination or UV radiation
