Final Exam Flashcards
Acetazolamide
carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that promotes EXCRETION of bicarbonate (HCO3-)
used for acid-base balances i.e. high altitude climbing
Furosemide/bumetanide/Enthacrynic acid
Brand name Lasix
acts on the ascending limb of the Loop of Henle
- regulates ability of water and sodium exchange by blocking specific cotransporter — ALTERING ability of fluid reabsorption
used to decrease Blood Pressure (indirectly)
Amiloride and chlorothiazide
both act on distal tubule
amiloride promotes removal of fluid w/o removing K+ (by blocking Na channel) – important for people that need K+ retention
p-aminohippurate (PAH)
solute that is completely removed by the kidney if infused into the blood
thiazide
diuretic that inhibits Na/Cl cotransporter in early distal tubule (furosemide can not bind here even though there is a Cl receptor site — the shape is the main cause)
