Final Exam Flashcards
Raster graphics
Described by an array of pixels that each have a given color and intensity value.
Vector graphics
Made up of lines and curves defined by mathematical objects called vectors. You can move, resize or change hues of vector without losing quality.
Art board
The canvas or area for creating your artwork.
Logo design should be…
Simple, effective without color, scalable, appropriate, and timeless.
Aperture
The opening in a camera lens through which light passes to expose the digital sensor.
Aperture priority
An exposure mode on an automatic camera that lets you set the aperture while the camera sets the shutter speed for proper exposure.
Autofocus (AF)
System by which the camera lens automatically focuses the image of a selected part of the picture subject.
Bracketing
Taking additional pictures of the subject through a range of exposures both lighter and darker when unsure of correct exposure.
Composition
The pleasing arrangement of the elements within a scene.
Cropping
Printing only part of an image usually for a more pleasing composition. May also refer to the framing of the scene in the viewfinder.
Depth of field (DOF)
The amount of distance between the nearest and farthest objects that appear in acceptably sharp focus in a photograph.
Diffuser
Softening detail in a print with a diffusion Disk or other material that spreads light.
F-stop
A number that indicates the size of the lens opening on an adjustable camera.
Example: f/2, f/4, f/8, f/11, f/16, f/22
The LARGER the f-stop, the SMALLER the lens opening.
LCD Panel
Liquid crystal display on cameras tth shows such info as remaining exposures, flash status and aspect ratio selected.
Reflector
Any device used to reflect light onto a subject.
Sensor
The area that is exposed by light through the lens and shutter thus producing an image.
Shutter speed
Indicates the duration (timing) at which the shutter curtain opens up amd closes.
Example: 1/8000, 1/4000, 1/500
Shutter
Some type of movable cover in a camera that controls the time during which light reaches the film.
