Final Exam Flashcards
Around how many OT verses state God is absolutely numerically one?
3,000+
Where must all revelation about God start, why must it start there, and where is that source?
If we’re fallen we need revelation of God and all revelation starts with God’s self revelation, the source is in the Bible.
What is the faulty approach or “lens” that trinitarians bring to the NT and what does it do to the OT revelation of God?
2nd-4th century philosophy, NT, and it crosses out the OT
What is the better approach or “lens” that oneness people bring to the NT and what does it do to the later philosophy?
OT, NT, but crosses out 2nd-4th century philosophy
How do our approaches to the OT reveal our conscious or unconscious attitude to God’s revelation?
God’s process of revelation is good and it is possible for you to destroy it purposefully or not.
Explain how Gen. 1:26 is not about a trinity.
The singular of Gen. 1:26, plural majesty, prophetic foreknowledge of the son, or speaking to the angels.
How do you explain the “God” or “Elohim” in Gen. 1:1 is not a proof of the trinity?
It is used with the singular modifier creator.
When “Elohim” is used of God what is always accompanied by?
Singular verb modifiers
If “Elohim” is used in more than one false god what is it always accompanied by?
Plural verbs and modifiers
When Scripture says Moses(Ex. 7:1), Samuel(1 Sam. 28:13-14), and all of the individual judges of Israel(Ps. 82:6) are called “Elohim” what does this prove regarding God?
That there is one because Moses is not a trinity, not the rest.
How does the inspired NT translation of the inspired OT verses calling God “Elohim” prove that God is absolutely numerically one?
There is no “wiggle room” in the Greek. Because when you take Elohim and translate it they only use Theos which is singular.
What are the two things represented in Dan. 7 and Rev. 5?
The son of man, and ancient of days. The son of man represents the humanity and the ancient represents deity. And the Holy Ghost is missing.
How do you prove Rev. 5 is not about persons in a so called trinity?
Where is the third person? Because when it speaks of the lion it’s metaphor of Jesus’ sacrifice. No Trinitarian says that Jesus will be called a lion and be a slain lamb standing so it can’t be literal.
How does the Bible show in another passage Dan. 7 and Rev. 5 are not separate persons?
It shows the son of man and the ancient of days blended together in the person of Christ.
Explain why Is. 6:3 is repeating “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty..” Does not prove a trinity.
In Hebrew you don’t say good, better, best. In place of it they use repetition. When the Bible says on earth, earth, earth there are not three earths.
Did the Oneness message disappear after the fourth century and slowly make a come back in the 19th century?
No, you can trace oneness believers throughout history
According to Tertullian’s writing “Against Praxeus” what was the dominant belief still in the 4th century and what was the minority view?
Oneness was the majority belief, and the trinity was the minority.
What two things does “Father/Son” language in the NT show?
The divinity and humanity. What God did as deity and what he could only do as humanity
