What was the purpose of the Freedman’s Bureau?
It provided service for former slaves. Like food, shelter, clothing, medical needs, etc.
What is the Indian Removal Act?
When prez A.J. passed a law that forced all Native Americans out of their homes to the west so what he thought there would be no conflict
List two effects of the Civil War
- Slavery was outlawed
- Emancipation Proclamation
- Former slaves became citizens
Define Manifest Destiny
A belief that the U.S. was destined by God to take over all of North America
What is the Emancipation Proclamation?
It made all slaves in rebellious territories free, but this didn’t change the lives of slaves instantly since the South didn’t recognize the Union as their government
What issue caused the Civil War to break out? List events that caused an increase in tension between the North and the South before the Civil War.
The issue was that slaves would rebel by running away, and destroying their owners tools. Also te 1860 Election. For example the Underground Railroad stirred up a lot of drama. The Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the Fugitive Slave Act
What is capitalism?
The economic system of America or where people and businesses decide what they want to sell or buy and for how much
Why did American Indians see white settlers a a threat? Was this justified? Explain
Was the final reconstruction plan like Lincoln’s? List two ways it was or wasn’t
No because Lincoln wanted fair rights for African Americans, but even after the Civil War, they still didn’t have their full rights. Jim Crow laws, and Segregation
What was Jim Crow? Give an example of a Jim Crow law, punishment, or expectation
Laws or expectations placed on African Americans to keep them down and terrorize them. Voting restrictions, and a black person shouldn’t even look at a white person or the would most likely be killed
Did Reconstruction work? Why or why not?
Not really, because the South was poor, and many slaves were free but not truly free and had the experience of true and real rights. Many moved to the west because of this.
