Cognitive component- Worry
Physiological- Racing Heart

What is Generalized Anxiety Disorder
A continuous state of anxiety marked by worry, dread, and apprehension. Lasts 6 months or more.
What is Panic Disorder
Panic occurs suddenly, unpredictably, and is very intense. Peaks then remits over 10-15 mins.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Obsessions- Repetitive unwanted thoughts, images, or impulses.
Compulsions- Performed to neutralize the anxiety associated with intrusive thought.
Symptoms of Depression
Mood symptoms, Cognitive Symptoms, Motivation Symptoms, Physical Symptoms
What is major depressive disorder
One or more major depressive episodes
What is persistent depressive disorder
More chronic disruption of mood. May be less severe but lasts at least 2 years.
What is Bipolar disorder
Depression, alternates with periods of mania.
Origins of Depression
Genetic factors, Life experiences, Loss of relationships, Cognitive habits
What is a Somatic Disorder
They think there is something wrong with them when there isn’t really. Very real to individual.
Illness Anxiety
Preoccupied with having or acquiring a serious illness.
What is a Dissociative Disorder
Severe alterations or detachments in identity, memory, or consciousness
What is Depersonalization
You lose sense of your own reality
What is Derealization
Losing your sense of the reality of the outside world
Schizophrenia
Delusions, Hallucinations, Disorganized thoughts, behaviors, and speech.
Dissociative Identity Disorder
Involved the adoption of several new identities. At least 2 of the personalities repeatedly take control of a person’s behavior.
Paranoid personality disorder
mistrust and feelings of being persecuted by others
Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Exaggerated sense of self importance and self absorption.
Borderline Personality Disorder
Intense but unstable relationships, fear of abandonment, unrealistic self image, emotional volatility.
Antisocial Personality Disorder
Lifelong pattern of irresponsible, antisocial behavior, such as law breaking, violence, and other impulsive reckless acts.`
Psychodynamic Therapies
Focus on relationship, believe in unconscious, things outside of awareness can be influencing behavior. Meet 1-2 times a week and talk about mom and dad and how they contribute to issues.

Focus on changing emotional and self-defeating thoughts and behaviors. Changing beliefs about self.
