Frameless cabinet construction
The front edge of the cabinet body components are edgebanded
Face Frame
Construction where the front edge of the cabinet body components are overlaid with a frame
Paneled Door
Looks like a door with a panel – use of flat or raised panels
Full overlay
Doors and drawers fully cover the cabinets
Partial Overlay
Back of the cabinet is visible around doors and drawers
Flush inset
The doors are inset into the edges of the cabinet
Types of edging
Regular nosing, waterfall edge, No drip edge
Miter joint
Multiple layers of wood are joined perpendicular to each other – diagonal line where joined – aesthetically interesting
Mortise and Tenon
Mortise is the hole in which the tenon is shoved into
Butt Joint
A piece of wood literally abutts another piece of wood
Dowel joint
Dowels inserted into holes
Finger joint
Otherwise known as a dovetail joint – small triangular cutouts that fit togehter
Dado
A long channel is carved out from the wood and the joint is placed into it (think dado machine)
Screwed joint
A joint that uses screws
Laminate
Overlay with a layer of veneer or some other protective material
Casing (Trim)
The outer trim part of the door
Base molding
A molding along the upper margin of a baseboard or other plinth
The molding from floor to wall
Crown molding
The part that goes from wall to ceiling, can be very decorative
