Final Evaluation of Bowlby's Theory of Attachment Flashcards
Strengths- Varied evidence
The theory had a huge amount of varied, detailed evidence. He found evidence from- case studies, experiments, animal studies. Drawing from different areas made it more valid.
Strengths- Applications
His work had huge applications and lead to changed in the hospital systems and daycare.
Weaknesses- Hard to generalize findings
He used lots of animal studies, which are hard to generalize to humans (Harlow).
Weaknesses- The naturalistic observations lacked careful procedures
Spitz, and Goldfarb lacked procedures and didn’t have great detail about their methods, so their procedures could have been biased, affecting their results.
Weaknesses- Bias
His own study could have been biased, as he was searching for a particular result. It was also not a reliable procedure.
