How to Administer Bedpans

A
  1. Wash hands, put on gloves
  2. Have patient bend knees and raise bottom or turn on their side
  3. Place chuck pad under patient, then place bedpan. Ask patient to position themselves on top
  4. Provide tissue and privacy
  5. Instruct them to raise/ turn and remove bedpan
  6. Empty contents into toilet and dispose bedpan into garbage
  7. Wash hands

Hand Hygiene

A
  1. Remove jewelry, push up sleeves
  2. Stand away from sink and make sure clothes don’t touch sink
  3. Turn on warm water, wet wrists and hands. Keep hands lower than elbows
  4. Apply soap, rub hands together interlacing fingers, lather for at least 20 seconds
  5. Rinse each hand, clean between fingers and under nails
  6. Dry wrists and hands with paper towels. Pat starting at fingertips. Turn off faucet with paper towel

Lab Findings Suggestive to Sonographic Findings

A

Troponins- Draw blood if symptoms of chest pain or related to MI. The higher the levels, the more damage to the heart. Also related to myocarditis or CHF.
BNP- B-type Natriuretic Peptide. Released when the heart is stressed. Produced in LV when the heart doesn’t get enough oxygen.
