A

In 1608, he established the 1st permanent settlement in Quebec. This marks the beginning of the French Regime. He formed the Company of 100 Associates. This company was given a monopoly over the fur trade in exchange for promising to settle 4000 colonists over a 15 year span. The Company did not meet this obligation.

Describe the seigneurial system.

A

The seigneurs divided the land into rectangular strips and rented it out to the habitants. The seigneurs and habitants both had sets of rights and obligations to each other. The seigneuries were situated on the St. Lawrence River so the farmers had access to water.
