Final Flashcards
How do you determine PTA
Start at 40 db and 1000 hz. If client hears, go down 10. If client does not hear, go up 5 db.
What level do you present speech recognition words
Level at which listener can identify 50% of simple speech signal.
For a normal hearing person, what level do you start testing for pure tones?
40 db, 1000 hz
How do you determine if PTAs are reliable?
Reliability is when it can be reduplicated with similar results. Do an SRT score to cross check PTA (validate PtA). It will alert you to possible errors in pure time threshold.
Someone with corner audiogram will have what kind of speech?
Someone with COrner audiogram is deaf
Tymp type for otosclerosis
A
Tymp type for wax occlusion
Type B small volume
Tymp type for TM perforation
No peak flat Type B with a large volume
Tymp type for fluid
Flat type B with normal value
What type of HL happens as we age?
High frequency hearing loss, presbecusis
What kind of HL would we expect from fluid
Conductive HL
Name 3 syndromes that cause a HL and what kind?
1) Down syndrome
2) treacher Collins
3) crouzon syndrome
All Conductive !!!
What do all pure tones have to be better or equal to be considered normal?
25 db or below
What would a person who has profound HL in one ear and normal hearing in the other have hearing like?
Unilateral hearing loss
What kind of words would you use for SRT
Generally 6-8 words that you are comfortable with.
SPONDEE WORDS. Two syllable words equal stress or accent on each word.
Must have words that minimize the influence of discrimination disorder
