Began 14th century in Italy
Renaissance means revival of classical antiquity, humanism= focus on humanity
Humanism distinct bc it broke from the medieval tradition of having pious religious motivation for creating art or works of literature.

sfumato - a delicate gradation of the transition between light and shadow
Teoria degli affetti (Theory of Affections)” - The representation of the ‘feelings’ or ‘affects’ that relate one figure with another corresponds to the idea of the constant evolution or motion of nature
