Children to Adult Ratio:
Infant: 1 person to 1.5 children

What is the definition of special need:
disabilities that prevent children from progressing at the customary pace mentally, physically, or emotionally
Shared symptoms of disabilities:
hyperactivity with short attention span ADHD
- easily distracted and impulsive
- poor visual/motor skills and large muscle and fine motor coordination
- rapid and excessive changes of mood and reasonings***
- faulty perception with repetition of a thought or action or problems with social interaction and inconsistent and unpredictable behavioryuh
What will the child’s need determine?
- the child’s needs will determine if you are able to receive them into Kid’s World
- their safety and the safety the of other children and teachers in the classes are the highest priority
What do you have to have for that one disability?
you have to have an one extra trained staff for that one disability
What are team members not allowed to do?
members (volunteers) are not to yell at a child; counsel, or spank, and they are not allowed to lose their tempers
Do not take kids that have what?
do not take kids if they have stitches
Tips for ministering to children with autism and other challenge:
- Think and teach visually
- use an area of interest
- be aware of environmental distractions
a. some kids with autism need complete silence; or darkness - use technology
- avoid figurative or abstract language (KiSS /ver concrete)
- be aware of generalizations
- do not reinforce undesired behavior; expect them to learn the right behavior
- stick to a routine

What are the 4R’s explain:
Look for the 4 R’s
- Relevant: do the children and parents (families)of the Church need the program;
- Radical: focus on what is unique about your children’s ministry instead of doing something everyone else does, or trying to please everybody
- Reflective: the programs should reflect what the children love to do (exciting, fun, things children want to do); Real day to day situations that the children experience and how to apply what they have learned; it should also God’s unconditional love and acceptance.
- Relational: the program should focus on changing lives and building relationships not on tasks; and know that Jesus focused on relationships
