o Steps:
• Receive offer
• Evaluate offer
• Negotiate offer
o Do it to get the fair market value for your skills, experience and knowledge
o Don’t be over zealous, demanding
o Do your homework to research what the market will pay
o “Always” negotiate!
o Accept it, reject it or ask for something else
o Benefits, vacation, moving costs, etc.
o You can always think about an offer and get back to them – you don’t have to accept it on the spot!
o Sometimes you will go back and forth several times until a decision has been made
o The process does not need to be adversarial – in most cases it is expected!
o Start small and get comfortable with the process each time you interview
o If you don’t bring your personal salary higher, then don’t expect ADA to do it for you

• The higher the GPA the better, but 4.0 is NOT necessary!!
• Grades often used as a screening tool
• Often sciences and professional courses (NFS) are scored separately
• If sciences are low, look for programs that are not primarily clinical such as a smaller med ctr. or community-based program

• Who is your DPD Director?
• Completion of a supervised practice component (DI or CP)
• Pass the national board exam – the RD exam
• Pay your credentialing dues – right now is $50/year

• 75 hours of CE every 5 years

controlled by the state, decides what you can do legally in each state
• A title defined by state law. People holding the credential must have the proper background established by the title.
• LD in Texas:
• Bachelor’s degree in nutrition/dietetics
• Supervised practicum approved by the State Board (set up by you)
• Pass the RD exam given by CDR
• OR
• Become a Registered Dietitian then apply for licensure in the state where you live!
• How much? $90 every two years in Texas
• Helps assure we have a dietetics profession
• Helps to assure we are the nutrition experts in our state
• Helps to protect the public from uneducated/untrained individuals
• Helps our clients/patients get insurance reimbursement
• Helps support each other where licensure is required
• Helps legislatively to support issues – “3,000 licensed dietitians in Texas agree with this bill”

o Dicas has 40 buck app fee, and 20 dollars for each additional application
o Most programs also have app fees as well that you must send in too
o Must prioritize programs on D & D, which costs 50 bucks
