Final Flashcards
What is a clamp?
A device that supports wiring, either singly or in a bundle.
What is bonding?
A fixed union between two metallic objects which results in electrical continuity between the two objects.
What two types of alloy are most commonly used in aviation wiring application?
Copper and aluminum.
What is splicing?
A cable connection where no terminal or connector is used.
What is a protective device?
A device which is designed to prevent an excess in current flow in order to protect the wiring.
What are switches?
Any device which controls the current flow for one or multiple circuits.
What is a resistor?
A device which provides opposition to current flow to dissipate power in the form of heat.
What is a motor?
A device which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy
What is a power source?
Any device which created a voltage to be used to produce electron flow
What is a conductor?
A conductor carried the current from the power source to the place where it is used and carries the current back to the source
What is a load?
Any device which uses the electricity.
What is a terminal?
Metal ends attached to electrical wiring used for making connections to other components.
What is a post?
A device used to attach the terminal.
What is a terminal strip?
A device used for multiple terminals. It is used to produce a common point of disconnection for many components.
What is a bus?
A special terminal strip that receives the voltage from the main source and distributes it to the different loads.
What is a junction box?
A device used to hold multiple terminal strips.
What is a connector?
A mechanical connection for a conductor.
What is conduit?
An extra covering for a conductor for mechanical protection of the conductor.
What is load analysis?
The process of comparing the load of a system to the alternator generator output capabilities, and the wiring and circuit protection capabilities.
What is the purpose of load analysis?
To ensure except for short periods of time, that the battery is always being charged and the wiring is not overloaded.
What are the most common problems in an electrical circuit?
Open circuit
Short circuit
Low system voltage
Are all circuits required to have some form of circuit protection?
No.
